Archived: Bus route and area map files

We’ve added the quadrant maps and central London route maps to the new site today.

For the bus route maps (or spider maps as many refer to them) we have put a link back to them on our old site until we are ready to publish them on the new site.

You can find these maps at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/maps/bus.

TfL Bus Maps
We’ve added a link back to bus route ‘spider’ maps on our old site while we work on adding them to the new site.

  1. Thank you, thank you – spiders and quadrant maps returned. Good to know someone was listening to the howls of protest.:) London is now our lobster again.

  2. I still can’t find the Spider Maps – the link just goes straight to the new site. Please can we have the maps somewhere on the new site? Can’t be easy to take a functioning website and make it worse but…..you’ve done it!

  3. Whenever I try to access a map I get a popup informing that Google has disabled use of the maps API for this application. I have deleted all TfL, TransportForLondon & Oyster cookies, to no avail.

Happens on both Chrome & IE (but not Opera, which is barely used) and is also ok at work (on Chrome). I’m baffled (& frustrated).

And my attempt to log this via ‘Feedback’ was unsuccessful – the submit button did nothing.

    1. Hi Paul – can you give us the exact URL you are accessing this through and we’ll take a look. Might also be handy to know what device and browser you are using.

      1. URL is :http://www.transportforlondon.gov.uk/maps/?cid=fs069; accessed from the front page via the ‘Maps’ link. If I then click Buses, say, I get the same pop-up.

        I’m using a Win7 C, and Chrome is up-to-date at v34.0.1847.116 (v33 was the same).

OK, I’ll stop now. tfl.gov.uk works; transportforlondon.gov.uk does not. I’ll update my bookmarks and let you add that to your backlog.

        1. Ok. Looks like we still have some cleaning up to do of old domains. We’ll sort that out. Our regular address is tfl.gov.uk and that’s the best one to use.

  4. Is there a way to view the close-up sections in the quadrant maps, e.g. Kings Cross, Waterloo areas? In the main Central London map is says ‘see right’, but that part is not available as far as I can see.

  5. A significant proportion of spider maps are failing to load properly – “There was an error processing the page. Invalid ColorSpace.” Manor Park and Leicester Square night buses are two examples. Happens under IE11 or Chrome under Win 7 and (rom feedback from others) on other platforms too.

Presumably there is some common thread, like software used or some particularly repulsive colour!

One point that stands out is the naming convention, like – there isn’t one. Hyphens sometimes, a4 sometimes, dates sometimes (and then the format of the date). This could be problematic for anyone linking to a map, particularly the inclusion of the date, which I can see needs to be there if a map is posted while the old one is still current, but perhaps ought not be thereafter.

  6. Phil – How is your investigation going? It is over a month ago that I highlighted this problem and as far as I can see absolutely nothing has changed.

    1. Hello – is there anybody there? Starting to wonder why I bothered as naff all appears to have been done.

I see that someone else has put in a FOI request for a very similar list of maps which cannot be downloaded properly.

Finally, at least two maps (Canary Wharf and Walworth Road Night) set off a virus warning in Avast. Probably a false positive but not exactly confidence-inspiring.

      1. Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I am specifically looking for a spider map of Waterloo because I’m trying to work out various bus routes from North London that terminate at (or stop at) Waterloo station. Do you know who I can contact to tell them that the Waterloo spider map link is broken?

        1. OK – we know about problems with some spider maps and the team are working on it right now with our supplier of these maps. This should be resolved shortly. The stop page for Waterloo will give you this same information – it’s at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/bus/stop/HUBWAT/waterloo-station – you get to it by going through the menu and ‘stations, stops and piers’, then type in Waterloo and select it from the suggested list. Select ‘bus’ and you’ll arrive at this page.

  7. Phil
Looking at what is there, it appears that no spider maps have been updated fro over two months now (unless I am looking in the wrong place). There used to be very frequent updates. Is this a change of policy or has something gone wrong with the process?

  8. Hi,

Does anyone know of similar PDFs for station plans of ‘where to catch your bus’ listing all the different bus stops available along with a map?

    Thanks in advance.
