Just as summer has finally arrived, Ruislip Lido Railway and the associated places of interest are now available in our Journey Planner solutions. This means that it’s possible to plan a journey from anywhere in London to any of the Lido Railway stations. Journey Planner will give you detailed instructions about the train service. That is, the train to catch as well as accessibility and ticket information. You can literally “catch the big train, to the little train!”

The railway operates mainly weekends and throughout the summer. It is the longest narrow (12 inch) gauge railway in Britain. The 120-capacity, fully-accessible trains run on tracks that loop around a 60-acre lake in Ruislip Lido. We believe that it is important to keep in touch with the communities that use our services, offering journey solutions to popular destinations.

Ruislip Lido is a popular recreational destination located 13 miles from the centre of London, and is home to one of the largest man-made sandy beaches in the South East. Its lakeside woods are popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders. It is no wonder the Lido attracts a large number of families, especially during the summer.

The addition of the railway and lakeside footpaths has therefore provided a platform for complete journey solutions. That is, visitors can now plan their journeys beyond the last stop of bus route H13, to any area within the Lido.

In addition, we have made the new data available in the Open Data API used by developers. This helps us provide the customer with a one-stop service on both our website and apps that are powered by our data. This means that customers can use our website to plan their journey end-to-end, without the need to navigate to another website to plan other legs of the same journey.

We add places of interest to Journey Planner to reflect the reason people travel on our services. We believe that you should be able to plan a journey to the exact location rather than to a station or bus stop that may be far from your final destination. If you would like a new point or place of interest added, please email us at GetThePoint@tfl.gov.uk with the name and location and we’ll put it on the system.
